Summer Fun at The Zoo plus an Eric Carle inspired activity!

Earlier this month we took a trip to our local zoo for an Animal adventure! We love visiting our Zoo! Its a great place for the kiddos to get there wiggles out and run and play while learning and maybe even like we did create a lasting memory by making there own Book. Plus now that its summer who doesn't want to go on a little adventure?

Take a look at the fun we had at The San Antonio Zoo:
Our first stop is always The reptile House! We love to check out the snakes
We got super lucky and caught a snake shedding its skin which is a great opportunity for the kids to learn something new and see it up close.
then we went to check out the fish...
Love this message! Especially for children "Explore your World"
Then we went to lory landing where you can feed the Lorikeets. Its a real fun experience for the kiddos and great on your wallet because its free to go inside Lory landing and if you want to buy them food to feed, its only $1.50. Trust me its worth it when you see the smile on your kiddos face. I had fun last year feeding the lorikeets when they all just kept landing on me. You can check out that fun day here.

Another favorite place is the Fun farm where you can touch and even comb pigs and goats. They are super fun and friendly!
Our final fun spot was Rift Valley where we saw a Rhino and walked down to see the zebras and Elephant.
It was a great zoo visit! Plenty of the animals were out and active during this hot day but since we always arrive early it wasn't so bad. How long has it been since you visited your local zoo?

Here is the activity book we created using pictures we took during our Zoo visit. This is an Eric Carle inspired activity using the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear". You can make your own with your kiddos and it will be a great memory book for them. Check out how to make one here plus more pictures from this visit. Have fun making one!
Hope you are having a great summer and making lots of happy memories before the kiddos head back to school or like mine go for the first time. If your still looking for summer fun ideas be sure to check out my 75 Days of summer fun. Its a great place to get started and create your own fun list to prevent summer boredom. Hope you check it out and enjoy your summer!

Having fun at the San Antonio Zootennial Plaza Ground Breaking

This past weekend we had the pleasure of attending the Zootennial Plaza ground breaking and it was a lot of fun! It all started with a postcard inviting us over to the ground breaking (It was an open invitation to all Zoo members) and I was intrigued...
What ground breaking? Whats going on at my zoo? I called them up and they kindly informed me that the Ice Cream shop was going to be demolished that day right in front of us! A Lot of sad thoughts filled our heads but we wanted to be there to say goodbye. Plus they weren't just tearing it down to get rid of it, they were doing it because the San Antonio Zoo is about to celebrate its first 100 years! Wow! One Hundred years and they are adding some beautiful touches to the Zoo. They are adding a new restaurant and plaza which will be a focal point at the Zoo now, as well as a gorgeous carousel. I am very excited about the carousel and I know your kiddos will be too.

We got to the Ground breaking a little early Saturday morning so we decided to take a nice walk at Brackenridge Park which is right next to it first. It was a beautiful morning so it was perfect!
The Zoo finally opened and we grabbed our wrist bands.
We then walked over to to the demolition site where we were treated with Free Taco Cabana Breakfast! They had a food truck there making tacos and it had yummy salsa and drinks all Free.
After a quick breakfast we went to go check out what else was going on at the site. Here is the Ice cream Shop before the demolition.
They had set up some tables near there set up with fun things on them such as:
Face painting, some fun animal toys and huge stuffed snakes!
A very, very long stuffed snake that the kids loved getting to know.
Bats! A bat home, habitat and how they help farmers produce food.
After a while they announced they were closing off the area and they made some announcements and the demolition started. We watched as they ripped the Ice cream parlor apart until there was only little pieces left.
My son was so excited watching it all happen, most people don't get to see a building get demolished every day so it was a new experience. Meanwhile I am sure there were others who felt very different. Before the demolition they announced that a couple within the crowd were married on that very deck years ago so I wonder how they must have felt. If it would have been me I would have picked up a piece of the deck to take home.
We then went to go explore and see some animals.
We had such a great day watching the ground breaking of the Plaza, exploring the Zoo and taking a nice walk at Brackenridge Park. What a great way to spend a Saturday. I cant wait to see the Zoo when all the construction is done. You can check out another fun visit we had at the Zoo here. There sure will be many more to come. If you live in San Antonio head on over and check out the construction. If you are visiting my lovely city then make plans to check it out while you are here.

Project 52: Week 9

Project 52: Week 9

Hello March! Its now March and soon it will be Saint Patricks day on the 17th and then Easter on the 31st (yep Easter is this month) and so far this month has been pretty good to me. Here's my past week:
We had fun outdoors playing with chalk and enjoying the sunshine. We went grocery shopping and there are lots of cute Easter things to buy! (Most you can cheat a little and DIY). Munchkin met some nice Police men downtown who gave him an adorable Police sticker he proudly wore calling himself a Copicer (mix of cop and officer). We started decorating the fence and we went to the Zoo! It was a great week!

Plus I was over at Gummy Lump again! This was my second time over there making some fun kids crafts. My first is a fun craft making your own Zoo using paper plates!

The second craft is making Keychains out of your old puzzle pieces.
How was your week?

If you are looking for some Easter Inspiration check out my Easter board on Pinterest! While you are there check out my Saint Patricks Day Board. Both have some yummy treats and home decor and plenty of crafts for all ages. Hope they help you get ready!

Don't forget to check out these cute easy to make cupcakes I made last Easter. I wanted them to look like Easter Baskets. They make cute treat gifts so you can tell your friends you got them an Easter Basket and they can eat it too! Plus, kids love the candy.

The San Antonio Zoo gets in the Holiday spirit!

Saturday morning we left home bright and early to get to the San Antonio Zoo. I had gotten an email from them telling me about the upcoming events and when I read about Santa visiting the zoo and how he would be taking special gifts to the animals... I was in!

Here's a Glimpse of our visit and the fun we had:

First on our path were all the snakes and we were giggling because we are major Harry Potter fans so of course we have to speak parseltongue to them (child at heart). But who doesn't?
We then went to check out the Hippos. They are always so cute. Munchkin was watching them with excitement as they went up on the surface.
Next we went to go feed the Lorikeets and we were super excited because it was the first time we were trying it. I of course open the container excited to put it down so my munchkin can see birds come up to it but instead birds start landing on me! I just burst out laughing in shock of how funny it was!
I'm finally able to put a new container down so I can stop being a perch and just enjoy the birds.
Then we went to go hang out at the Fun Farm. Who doesn't want to go pet some animals and brush there hair? They are so friendly!
Munchkin was excited when we got to Tiny Tot Nature Spot and I think the Zoo has a new little employee. They even sell a cute Zoo keepers outfit in one of the giftshops (Christmas gift idea for a child interested in animals)
Finally we went to go see Santa! (Free) He was set up in the Butterfly Exhibit and to my surprise there were Butterflies still in there! It was nice that while you wait in line you get to see them land on ornaments and fly around you.
They had santa set up with a bunch of stuffed animals that gave it a Zoo touch. You could take pictures with him with your own camera.
While waiting for Santa to be ready to go present a gift to the Elephants, we had some Cookies and Hot cocoa (Free!) They also had a station set up to make natural ornaments. We made some yummy ornament treats for the birds.
Then when Santa was ready he led a parade of kids and parents to the Elephants were he presented them with a yummy present. It was sweet to watch the Elephant open it.
By this time we had been at the Zoo almost 4 hours so we called it a day! We were tired but so happy. We had a great day at the Zoo and made lots of new memories. My munchkin keeps asking me when were going to see Santa give more presents to the animals and we are going back soon to see our favorites from the list.

Every weekend in December Santa will be taking a special gift to the animals of the zoo. Here is the list with dates:

Saturday, Dec 1: Elephants
Sunday, Dec 2: Okapi

Saturday, Dec 8:
Tigers
Sunday, Dec 9:
Monkeys
Saturday, Dec 15: Bears
Sunday, Dec 16: Porcupines

Saturday, Dec 22: Condors
Sunday, Dec 23: Goats and pigs at Fun Farm

Happy Holidays!
