Making Cascarones (Easter confetti Eggs)

I received some bath confetti stars that you would normally get in a gift set. I personally dont really have time for baths, come on I have to fight for time to just take a shower! So I thought man these are really pretty and I decided to put them (using regular Elmers glue) on my plain cleaned out eggs. Why not use something unconventional to pretty up some eggs?

You just take a clean egg put glue over the areas slowly (I just rubbed it on with my finger one area at a time) and start laying out your stars. I put them so you could still see they were stars and have a bit of small space between them. Its really easy because the stars feel almost like tissue paper so they stick on very easy and conform to the oval shape of the egg. 

You don't need a lot of glue and the stars seem to last forever. I used some last year and I still have some for this year. They look so pretty and they will make really cute gifts for friends. Plus they are handmade and that makes them even more special. 

Munchkin helped me too! You would normally see confetti on the inside of a cascaron but we put it on the outside too and made them look cute! I gave munchkin some eggs we had dyed with kool- aid (already dry) and I wanted to make them a bit more festive so I gave munchkin glue and confetti and let him glue it on. He loved it because it was fun and messy, but they end up pretty cute. 

After you have your eggs decorated you get some tissue paper and cut out a circle out of the tissue paper a little bit bigger than the size of the hole opening in your egg, fill the egg with confetti or glitter (glitter will be so tough to get out of hair though, just warning you) and then use a little bit of glue to stick the tissue paper circle over the hole opening on the egg to seal in the confetti. Be sure to let your eggs dry and they will be ready for your Easter or Fiesta celebration to smash on someones head (For the smaller kids I personally have always broken the egg in my hand before putting all the confetti over them, it also helps them feel included without the owie risk).

Easter Chalk Fun

On a bright sunny day what else could we do but go outside, have fun and enjoy the sunshine? We brought out some chalk and munchkin went to coloring on the floor. He was making Easter eggs with me and I was making some Easter baskets with eggs inside! He helped me color some in and even drew a couple on his own. He even tried making a bunny!

It was a fun time and I think during our Easter BBQ we are going to put out a big tub of chalk for the kiddos to make there own Easter fun on the driveway. Its also a good learning opportunity on shapes. Eggs are ovals not circles and munchkin is great with his circle but still has trouble making an oval. I have to remind him egg... It looks like an egg. But once you remind him he does a pretty good job. I think it will be great for them on Easter and also a great decoration for us to have on our driveway. We will be sure to take pictures of them next to it as a keepsake. Hope you try it it out. Even if not on Easter, maybe before so that it helps with your Easter decorating outside!

Decorating your fence for Easter!

I wanted to share with you all How I decorate my fence cheap, quick and easy and its cute too! All you need is ribbon, plastic eggs and scissors and your fence will soon be ready for the Easter holiday. 

Here is my fence before:

Yep, Boring! If you know me then you know that I try to make the Holidays super special for munchkin. We always have a big BBQ for Easter and have kids over so I wanted something kid friendly and my munchkin loves it! 

You start with a bunch of plastic Easter eggs (I got mine last year after Easter when everything goes on sale. I paid only 50 cents for a huge bag! Its smart to buy at that time because plastic eggs wont go bad). Make sure that they are the kind that have holes on the top and that they have a small piece of plastic between the egg to connect the top and bottom half. Why? You will need the holes to pull the ribbon through and you want the egg top half and bottom to be connected so that every time it rains or its windy you wont be loosing pieces of the egg and it will always be intact. 

Pick a pattern and decide what colors you are hanging. The bag I opened had only these colors and I decided to just do one of each and start over as my pattern. I start by putting the string through the egg and tied it on. Decide how long you want them to hang and how far apart. I placed mine 3 fence links apart and made the ribbons length in a pattern as well. 

Slowly but surely you will see progress and it will be super cute! For the fence door I used one long ribbon and put on eggs in a different pattern and hanged it from one end to the other. 

We did a couple more touches like giant plastic Easter eggs in the grass and I will probably keep adding until Easter so that when the kids come over they are sure to have a fun time! Here are pictures of the finished fence:

Project 52: Week 9

Hello March! Its now March and soon it will be Saint Patricks day on the 17th and then Easter on the 31st (yep Easter is this month) and so far this month has been pretty good to me. Here's my past week:

We had fun outdoors playing with chalk and enjoying the sunshine. We went grocery shopping and there are lots of cute Easter things to buy! (Most you can cheat a little and DIY). Munchkin met some nice Police men downtown who gave him an adorable Police sticker he proudly wore calling himself a Copicer (mix of cop and officer). We started decorating the fence and we went to the Zoo! It was a great week!

Plus I was over at Gummy Lump again! This was my second time over there making some fun kids crafts. My first is a fun craft making your own Zoo using paper plates! 

The second craft is making Keychains out of your old puzzle pieces.

Easter Basket Cupcakes

I wanted to share with you the cupcakes I made last year for my family's Easter BBQ. They are super easy to make and cute too! Plus they make great treats to give as gifts!

For the cupcake itself use whatever recipe you normally use. Lets just say for this purpose you already made the cupcakes and let them cool off. 

Ingredients:

• Rainbow Twizzlers
• Bunny Peeps
• Candy Grass
• Jelly Beans/candy eggs
• Frosting

Directions: 
Now that your cupcakes are cool gather your materials. At my local grocery store every year they have edible grass in various colors. Its one giant long strand rolled up like a rope in the package. I get clean scissors just for the purpose of cooking and cut off a piece of the strand. I then cut up the grass into small little snippets. I put that to the side. (This will work almost like sprinkles)

I then frosted my cupcakes in chocolate so that it looked like dirt. Of course you can do this in any color you want. I then while the frosting was still fresh put the snippets of candy grass onto the frosting so that now I have a base of dirt with grass. 

I then used a package of Rainbow Twizzlers. It literally has various colors of Twizzlers in one pack instead of the normal all red package. I separate one out from the bunch and I dig one end into one edge of the cupcake then the other end into the opposite side so as to form a handle for my basket. This is another reason why you don't want your cupcake still warm because it will break apart when the Twizzlers go through, but when cooled off it will fit right in and stay firm. 

Now I had my basket with grass and I grab a bunny to put inside. I used the bunny peeps to do this and they are fun because they come in different colors! You will most likely have to shorten the peeps height but that will also depend on the size of Twizzlers you use. Just use scissors and cut to fit if needed. 

I then got a bag of jelly beans to use as Easter eggs in my cupcake basket and some are speckled so they look like eggs even more so! 

Ta-da! You now have an Easter Basket cupcake! 

You can make these with various candies and different sized eggs. I made some using gum eggs and hard candy eggs. I also used little bunny toppers on some, and some are just baskets with only eggs so just be creative, have fun and Enjoy!
