February Play and Learn 2013

In February we tried to go to Play and Learn more often but sadly we didn't get to. We did get lucky enough to be able to go the day before Valentines day and had lots of fun! That morning we woke up bright and Early making our way to our Beautiful Downtown San Antonio.
Dont you love the Riverwalk in the morning?
We hopped on a trolley and got to The Central Library.
February Play and learn was adorable! The theme was red (I like to think in honor of Valentines Day). Here is a glimpse of the fun we had:

I knew we were going to be able to make it so I wanted to make a quick treat for the rest of the kids there. The night before I had put a variety of candy in little treat bags and then I made a heart out of cardboard and used it as a pattern to make hearts out of construction paper. On the hearts I wrote Happy Valentines Day and on the back I wrote from my munchkin. I tied them with ribbon and ta-da! Treat bags done. It was cute to see munchkin give them out to the kiddos.
The play and learn started off with a story and an Ice breaker (Ants in pants game). Munchkin loves it because they make it interactive for the kids.
We then went off to do the various activities available.
They had BIG books for the kids to look through and toys that matched that book to make it more interactive such as "Growing Vegetable Soup"  with all the veggie toys. And "The Very hungry caterpillar" along with a huge caterpillar and the foods he ate. It was so cute and even more fun!
They also set up what looked like a car wash except with hearts! They put the blue path so kids would walk on it but instead my munchkin used it as a food conveyor strip.
We had a great time at the Library (Yes his shirt says Handsome little Devil) and picked up some fun books and even got to take home a Free Book "Baby eye like" for attending that day! How great is that? Its going to our home library! Have you been to your local library lately? Be sure to check out yours and have lots of fun!

Central Library Play and Learn 2013

Here we are back again at Play and Learn! We had really been missing our weekly visit downtown to Central Library. A lot had been going on and we had not been able to make it. Luckily we are getting back into our routine! We only got to make it to one session in January and this Play and Learn was under the Sea themed (munchkin loves sea life and I bet your kiddos do too!).

Here's a glimpse of the fun we had:

Munchkin with Tia reading before Play and Learn starts
At the beginning of every Play and Learn they always read the kiddos a story to go along with the theme of the day.
Next they bring out the fun and let the kids loose to explore the various activities of the day. They had stuffed animal sea creatures for the kiddos to use there imagination and play with.
They had sensory bottles that represented the beach sand, the waves from the ocean, rocks, pebbles and shells. These are always fun and easy to make at home.
They also had plenty of rubber/plastic sea creatures that munchkin had a blast with! He was playing with the shark while doing the Jaws theme.
They had a boat made out of a cardboard box and had an area for the kids to go fishing for the alphabet. This is lots of fun and a great opportunity to do some letter learning in a creative way.
They had it so you could match up the lower case with the upper case letters
This giant sheet of paper was set up so you could make your own seahorse and put it in the ocean along with its buddies. It was very cute!
On our way out from having fun each kiddo could pick up a treat (treasure) to take home with them to keep! My munchkin was so happy with his treasure.
We had lots of fun and were sad to go home. Munchkin always feels bad when its over but hes happy when I tell him we can go again next week! Play and Learn is Free to all! There is no registration so just show up ready to have fun with your kiddos.

Right now there are Play and Learn sessions going on every Tuesday 10 am- 11:30 am through March 12 at The Woodlawn Lake community Room and every Friday 10 am -11:30 am through March 15 at Westfall Branch library

Project 52: Week 7

Project 52: Week 7

This past week was all about Love in this house. We made Valentines and Valentine treat bags. We went to Play and learn at Central library where the theme was Red for Valentines day! Then of course the big day came and we played with chalk outside making hearts.

We had a pretty great week. How was your week? Did you have a good Valentines day? Hope your week was filled with Love like ours!

Plus If you have not yet checked out my first time at Gummy Lump then head on over and see my Indoor Zoo Craft made with paper plates. I made a Lion, giraffe, bear and turtle with my munchkin so we could play indoors during winter. I hope your munchkins have fun with it!
Are you doing a Project 52? Even though we are in February that doesn't mean you cant still start yours up. Share yours with me!

Play and Learn December

This past Wednesday we went to the first Play and learn of December at the Central library. We have been going there now for a couple of months and love it! This week the theme was The 5 senses. We didn't have such a great time this week because my munchkin had gotten his wellness check up and shots done the afternoon before. The areas where he got the shots were irritated and sore (I was the same way with shots when I was little) so he was fussy and cranky and just extra irritated himself. But we got through the class and he is feeling alot better now.

So here's a very limited view of Play and Learn this week:
You had a tail sticking out of the box that you could see and touch so that you could guess what was inside. There were various boxes to try out
Here's what was inside the various boxes
Make your shaker!

This was huge! It had various things on the fingers to touch& feel differences on
Feeling the different textures
Various containers with different smells
Tastes, different flavors
I like the various forms they represented the senses. They are simple and could be done at home which I love! Munchkin loved playing with the boxes the most.

Last Play & Learn of November

Wednesday morning off we went in the cold to The Central Library for Play and Learn. We first stopped to check out the H-E-B Tree in front of The Alamo since its on the way. It so Beautiful! Its become a tradition to get pictures of my munchkin taken there every year. I love it!

We then took the Trolley to the Library. Any of your munchkins a PBS Daniel Tiger Fan ? Well when ever were on a trolley were singing "Wont you ride along with me... ride along" Which if your kids are fans of the show you know this song. We got there and were so glad for the warmth. The them of the days Play and learn was building.

We played ants in pants game and then they read us a book "The Construction crew".
We then went off to do activities. Here's a glimpse of the fun we had:

They gave us a free Alphabet book to keep that was building tools related (we actually had that book at home checked out from the library so we were glad to be able to add it to our collection) And a white paper back that written across it said "Build and Bring back" It was filled with odds and ends and so far munchkin has been playing with the pieces and I'm trying to think what we should make.
Play and Learn was lots and fun! We always have a good time and remember that Play and Learn is free! You don't need to register beforehand. You just show up ready to Play and learn!
