Our Visit to The Texas Book Festival in San Antonio

A couple of weeks ago we attended the Texas Book Festival (San Antonio edition) and had lots of fun! It was held at The Central library and Southwest School of Art. There was so much to do, see and enjoy that I wish it was longer. They had various authors, book sales, readings and activities for all ages. I knew we had to go and right off the bat I knew we would be doing the kids version. I planned out what kids activities and areas I wanted to visit as well as kids book readings and sales, but sadly we couldn't even do half of what was on my list because we would stay so entertained in one area that we would lose track of time.
We started off the day being greeted with people giving out free reusable San Antonio bags for all the fun to come (I love my bag).
We went to check out the kids area since the Bubble making station was on our must see list and we were excited to see that The San Antonio Childrens Museum was in charge of that activity! We love them and when we saw that they were making dry ice bubbles it was even more exciting since we had performed that Science experiment with them before. My munchkin knew what to do already so he got super bubbly soaked hands ready for fun! Have you tried making dry ice bubbles? When you pop them it looks like a poof of white. Its fun every time and even Clifford came over to say Hi!

Next we went to go learn how to make our Own Pop up Books. They had colored paper, googly eyes and more fun supplies so you can make your own creation. This was a great activity since a lot of children struggle to learn to read. What a fun way to get children more involved with books, by making there own they will hopefully be more inclined to want to read and show off there own words.
Then we went to make our own Bookmarks. They had pastels, markers, crayons and brushes with water to make the perfect place holder for your book reading.
We hopped on over to the Scholastic Literacy caravan. We had been on one of these before. If you haven't been in one they are full of activities for kids to inspire learning in a fun way. At the end when you are ready to get off they have a nice selection of books to choose from because guess what? They give you a Brand New FREE book to take home and keep, read and love! How Awesome is that? If you are in the San Antonio Area click here for a schedule of upcoming places you can visit the Scholastic Caravan at.
We took a walk over to the tents and stopped at various booths to see what books were for sale and the stories/inspiration behind them. It was fun to see the variety of books and themes. They had plenty of kids books and even some bookmarks. Scholastic had a big booth where they were giving away free pins. My favorite was the one that says" Reading gives you Super Powers". I took that one home with me for sure!
After a Lunch break while hearing live music at The Festival we knew it was time for some Shopping! We went downstairs to the Book Cellar. They had a great half off sale that day so it was packed! But even still we found a nice spot to sit on the floor and go through the shelves of kids books picking out some fun ones to take home. If your in the San Antonio area and a book lover you should make sure to head on over to the Book cellar and check out the great prices they have on there wide selection of books. You will not be disappointed
After getting our huge Haul of books bagged up we headed on home with great memories from the day, more books to fill our home library and wishes for the next Book Festival in San Antonio because we cant wait to go again!

Did you go this year to the Texas Book Festival in San Antonio? or have you gone to one in your area? Hope it was fun!

    February Play and Learn 2013

In February we tried to go to Play and Learn more often but sadly we didn't get to. We did get lucky enough to be able to go the day before Valentines day and had lots of fun! That morning we woke up bright and Early making our way to our Beautiful Downtown San Antonio.
Dont you love the Riverwalk in the morning?
We hopped on a trolley and got to The Central Library.
February Play and learn was adorable! The theme was red (I like to think in honor of Valentines Day). Here is a glimpse of the fun we had:

I knew we were going to be able to make it so I wanted to make a quick treat for the rest of the kids there. The night before I had put a variety of candy in little treat bags and then I made a heart out of cardboard and used it as a pattern to make hearts out of construction paper. On the hearts I wrote Happy Valentines Day and on the back I wrote from my munchkin. I tied them with ribbon and ta-da! Treat bags done. It was cute to see munchkin give them out to the kiddos.
The play and learn started off with a story and an Ice breaker (Ants in pants game). Munchkin loves it because they make it interactive for the kids.
We then went off to do the various activities available.
They had BIG books for the kids to look through and toys that matched that book to make it more interactive such as "Growing Vegetable Soup"  with all the veggie toys. And "The Very hungry caterpillar" along with a huge caterpillar and the foods he ate. It was so cute and even more fun!
They also set up what looked like a car wash except with hearts! They put the blue path so kids would walk on it but instead my munchkin used it as a food conveyor strip.
We had a great time at the Library (Yes his shirt says Handsome little Devil) and picked up some fun books and even got to take home a Free Book "Baby eye like" for attending that day! How great is that? Its going to our home library! Have you been to your local library lately? Be sure to check out yours and have lots of fun!

    Project 52: Week 9

    Project 52: Week 9

Hello March! Its now March and soon it will be Saint Patricks day on the 17th and then Easter on the 31st (yep Easter is this month) and so far this month has been pretty good to me. Here's my past week:
We had fun outdoors playing with chalk and enjoying the sunshine. We went grocery shopping and there are lots of cute Easter things to buy! (Most you can cheat a little and DIY). Munchkin met some nice Police men downtown who gave him an adorable Police sticker he proudly wore calling himself a Copicer (mix of cop and officer). We started decorating the fence and we went to the Zoo! It was a great week!

Plus I was over at Gummy Lump again! This was my second time over there making some fun kids crafts. My first is a fun craft making your own Zoo using paper plates

The second craft is making Keychains out of your old puzzle pieces
    How was your week?

If you are looking for some Easter Inspiration check out my Easter board on Pinterest! While you are there check out my Saint Patricks Day Board. Both have some yummy treats and home decor and plenty of crafts for all ages. Hope they help you get ready!

Don't forget to check out these cute easy to make cupcakes I made last Easter. I wanted them to look like Easter Baskets. They make cute treat gifts so you can tell your friends you got them an Easter Basket and they can eat it too! Plus, kids love the candy.

    SeaWorld San Antonio Wild Days!

This past weekend my family and I got a chance to learn a little more about the animals around us at SeaWorld San Antonio during Wild Days. My munchkin probably didn't even notice he was learning about the conservation of animals but instead was having so much fun watching them walk, fly and jump on stage.

Here's a glimpse of the fun we had:

We arrived bright and early for our first visit of the new season.

Munchkin posing in front of the fountain. You can see Aquatica in the background! In Texas its Hot almost always so I'm glad its opening March 2nd for its 2nd season.
This weekend we came to enjoy Wild days! I was excited because I wanted to see what animals they would be showing and I knew munchkin would love it.

While kids were waiting for the Wild Days shows to start there was a big section roped off full of chalk so kids could grab some chalk and draw all over the place. It was a good distraction for the kids, plus they could check out someone making some special work of art.
In the area around the show they also had Live music and characters walking around for people to take pictures with. Plus some special booths with a kids activity where they could learn about an animal, and even one where they had items you could buy to support the conservation of animals.
We then got ready to watch the show! It was fun and informative for all ages. They had professor Globentrotter on the screen sharing his adventures with us while they would bring out various fun animals on the stage. They would let you know about each animal and what is going on with them in the world. Some of the animals are endangered and they were telling us what we can do to help! They ran the show in a fun way so that the kids got great information while never noticing they were learning and a lucky few of them even got to go on stage and say hello to some of the animals.
After the show we took a walk to see the lake. It is always such a beautiful sight! Munchkin loves peaking over and seeing all the fish. They are huge!
We then took a quick look through Bay of Play and took a picture with Bert and Ernie!
We then went to go see The Sea Lions! They are so awesome swimming around and catching fish and even some squid!
We ended our day after eating some yummy pizza and cant wait to head back out there and have more fun! This weekend is the final weekend of Wild Days so head on out and enjoy the animals! Hope to see you out there and especially when Aquatica opens. I will be the one with munchkin playing in the sand.
