Bargain shopping fun

This week after the rain passed we finally left the house and went shopping! I was lucky enough to have won a gift card to Goodwill, its one of my favorite places to shop for bargains so this was exciting!

Here are some of the awesome finds from this week:

My favorite place to start is the books! I Love Books! I'm a bookaholic....
I literally try to look at every single title afraid I'll miss something. I ended up finding some really cute kids books and even coloring books.
I picked up a couple of photo albums to hopefully have fun with (ideas brewing)
I found a ton of really awesome Christmas items that were half off. I know! Half off the low prices they already have, it was a steal. This cute Christmas baker was only $2! and all those new packages you see of Christmas items they were 25 cents each!
If you like getting ahead of the season well they have a huge shelf covered in baskets. You can use them for Easter baskets or even make your Valentine a neat basket full of goodies. They even had Heart cutouts!

Anyone here a teacher? Or even a parent trying to organize there desk or kids arts supplies well there were so many cute containers and bins and more to help you along.
Lastly kids clothes! If you have a little one then you know how fast they grow out of clothes. So a tip from me would be to shop at Goodwill for kids clothes. Everything 5T and under is 99 cents! Baby clothes is a great bet. They don't walk around yet so how dirty can they get? I saw a bunch of items still with tags! We took home some cute clothes for munchkin and if I wouldn't have told you, you would have thought I bought it new.
Whens the last time you went shopping at goodwill? Items are being constantly brought out so its like shopping at a new store very time!

Disclosure: I won a Goodwill Gift card and was not asked to write about my shopping experience. All opinions are my own.

Having fun with a Colortime Craft

This week we got a great opportunity to try Out a Colortime craft by making a unique pillowcase and we had a good time making one. Munchkin gets excited anytime he sees something big in the mail. So when he saw me opening the package and taking out some big chunky markers he was all gimme me! I told him what we were making and he already wanted the pillowcase plain as it was.
When I told him he could draw and color on it he looked at me like Huh? I think its because you get your kids use to the rules of markers go on paper and then now your telling them to run wild on this pillowcase so they hesitate a bit. Well it was only a little bit but then that changed and we colored on it and even drew on it(I didn't want it white). It only came with 3 permanent markers but we made it work by mixing them and we ended up with 5 different colors. Then after munchkin was done I worked on the back alone. We have been working on his alphabet so I wrote out the alphabet and some number and shapes on the back as a final touch. I love it! He can be showing me his letters on his comfy pillow.
As soon as it was done he wanted to play with it. First he said it was big enough to be a blanket so off he went to put it on. Then I put it on a pillow so he changed his mind and put it on the bed to get comfy on. The colors dry quickly so you don't have to worry that they will get on everything.
I think this would be a great project for kids to do for a sleepover! I'm already imagining munchkins first sleepover with friends. They can decorate there pillows and have there friends sign them so that it becomes a keepsake of such a fun night. But there are alot of other fun projects you can do with themes for boys/girls. Check them out and plan your next sleepover!

The Happy Trunk: Fun in Food (Review)

My munchkin loves to draw and paint so we are always making something new. You should see our walls, they are covered in his art creations. So when we got a chance to try something new with art involved we were so in!
When The Happy Trunk came in the mail I was super excited to open it and see what we were making. Munchkin was excited as soon as he saw me pulling out crayons, markers, scissors and paint out of the box.
The Kit we tried out was the Fun in Food kit. The activities were:
  • Fruit and veggie Sponge painting
  • Design your Own Lunch/Snack Bag
  • How things Grow?
  • Make your Own Recipe card Ring
The Box comes with everything you will need to do each of these activities including an instruction card with directions all ready for you to use. We decided to start with Fruit and Veggie Sponge painting. It came with these teeny sponges in various shapes and it said on the card that by dropping them in water they would expand. Well wow! We had fun just growing sponges!
My munchkin started making various foods on the sheets provided. It gave us a good opportunity to talk about types of food and Healthy choices.
Here's his plate with food painted on it.
Next we tried the Design your own Lunch/snack Bag. Munchkin put stickers on one side. He then used the Fabric marker provided to put an "A" on the Bag for his Name.
On the other side he wanted to paint on it and I asked him what he wanted to make and he said a house and a tree. I can see it in his picture and I love it because he made it.
Now we just need to wait for it to be dry before we use it. Lastly we worked on the How things grow project. This one is going to turn out to be my favorite because its going to be a project that hopefully lasts a long time.
You start off with a small clear cup you add in the soil and then the Bean seeds and you watch it grow over time. It was fun and a chance to work on patience because we had to wait for the dried soil pellet to expand and grow and munchkin didn't even get mad. He enjoyed watching it expand then break it up and add in the seeds.
When I told him we were putting it in our window to watch it grow he was excited! This little plant is going to open up the possibilities for conversations on plants and growing and the power of the sun. I'm excited to watch it grow and I'm gonna document it for him in pictures once a week so this is going to be fun.
It had one more project you could do and that was to make Recipe Cards and I'm going to save those for a day when were having a picnic or going to the park so that while I'm making snacks to take He can draw out the pictures to the foods I'm making so that he creates a recipe card in pictures.

We had lots of fun with The Happy Trunk! I loved that I felt like we had more than enough to create the projects. We have paint, crayons and scissors that we can now use for other art projects we do at home. I had fun doing something different with munchkin and I love that there in themes.

You can sign up to order your own Happy trunk right now at a Holiday special price of 1st month box for $14 and a single box to gift for $14.

Our Week with the Letter F

I know this post is a little late but it had been written out for a while now. Our week with the Letter F did not go so bad. F is a strange sound so that was a little hard. But I think he's getting it.

Here's what we did this week:

Monday: We did highlighter letters and he is getting better every day

Tuesday: We made letters with play dough and worked with letter magnets
Wednesday: We went to Central library Play and Learn and worked on our alphabet with Alphabet books we checked out.
Thursday: We worked on our alphabet with alphabet magnets and did a Letter F craft. We made Flamingos that I saw on www.redtedart.com/

I think my munchkins flamingos came out sooo cute!

Friday: We went to Seaworld San Antonio for Howl-O-Scream for Munchkins Birthday weekend Palooza and had a blast!

Saturday: We went to the Botanical Garden during Broadway reach for Munchkins Birthday palooza. It was our first time there and we got to see the dinosaurs and had so much fun!

Sunday: My Son turned the big 4! aaaaah! how exciting :) We had a small BBQ and a couple friends came over to celebrate.

We had alot to do this week with getting ready for munchkins birthday weekend so I felt we did not do enough on this letter and decided to dedicate the week of  Oct. 22-28 as a review week for letters A- F. You can check out our other weeks here:

A: Our week with the Letter A
B: Our week with the Letter B
C: Our week with the Letter C
D: Our week with the Letter D
E: Our week with the letter E

How is your alphabet journey going? Is your child picking up all the letters?
