The Nutcracker at the San Antonio Symphony {Giveaway}

                Comes Back to the Majestic Theatre

Ballet San Antonio, the city’s professional ballet company, performs the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, with the San Antonio Symphony for the fourth consecutive season. 

When: The Nutcracker will run over two weekends from November 29-December 1 and December 6-December 8. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7 PM, and Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2 PM.

About the Nutcracker: This season Artistic Director, Gabriel Zertuche, will add some more exciting elements to his choreography.  The Snow Waltz will include male corps de ballet members. 

The dancers dazzling choreography will be accompanied by live symphonic music provided by the San Antonio Symphony. The full orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's unforgettable classic score under the direction of the Symphony's Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto.

This season’s Nutcracker also features approximately 150 children from across San Antonio  and surrounding areas, the largest number of children to participate in a Ballet San Antonio production.

As part of the company’s Learning That Moves You Outreach program, Ballet San Antonio and the Symphony will also stage two abridged performances from December 5-6 for school children from underserved areas. Learning That Moves You is sponsored by Rackspace and the Elizabeth Huth Coates Charitable Foundation.

Halloween Spooktacular - The Composer is Dead

Time: 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Where: Alamo Heights High School Auditorium, 6900 Broadway St.

Special feature:  Pre-Concert Activities for Kids and Instrument Petting Zoo at 1:30 p.m. Its an opportunity to experiment with and play orchestral instruments, hands-on musical arts and crafts stations, a visit from Count Bassie, the Symphony's beloved mascot, and a Halloween costume contest encouraging children to dress as their favorite composer for a prize.

About: The Composer is Dead is a riotous collaboration between composer Nathaniel Stookey and children’s author Lemony Snicket that combines two elements of great story-telling:  music and suspense. In a special Halloween-themed concert, San Antonio Symphony Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto will lead the orchestra in a gripping murder mystery where every member of the orchestra is a suspect. 

Family concerts are designed for children ages 4-11, but can be enjoyed by people of all ages and are a lively and informative approach to concert-going. 

Tickets: Individual concert tickets range from $8 for children, $16 for adults and are available at the Symphony Box Office or by calling 210.554.1010 or visiting  www.sasymphony.org. Patrons can also visit any Ticketmaster location, www.ticketmaster.com or call 210.224.9600 for concert tickets. Tickets can also be purchased at the venue on concert day. A family pass (a $144 value for a family of four) is available for $99 for all three 2013-2014 Family Concert series performances.

Have you checked out The San Antonio Symphony?

I don't know about you but my son is musical! He hears a beat and he wants to dance. He watches people playing instruments and off he goes to try to find things to mimic the music. I love it! I want to grow his love for music and help it thrive so when I heard about the San Antonio Symphony's Family Series I was intrigued. 

Have you been to a concert lately? 

I haven't and a lot of it had to do with the fact that I didn't think my kiddo would sit through it. But now I feel that hes ready for this! This is a family oriented show and even has a fun before activity you can do for free called The Instrument Petting Zoo! 

The Instrument Petting Zoo is free and starts an hour before the family concert series. Its a special opportunity for children of all ages to try out and play a variety of instruments. How fun is that? Maybe your kiddo will find there calling?


Don't have any weekend plans? There is a show this weekend called Columbus and his Musical Voyages  May 19th at 2:30 pm. There will be an Instrument petting zoo so make sure you head out there for the fun!
